Gastronomy and Hospitality

During the summer months, between June and September, weekly events are organised, ranging from summer carnivals to food fairs, music, theatre and traditional folklore. Small and large villages, in historic centres and by the sea, celebrate their own festivals and traditions. All events are accompanied by local cuisine and wines. Food and drink are synonymous with friendship and hospitality in Sardinia.
Not to be forgotten is the famous Malvasia di Bosa, one of Italy's finest wines, which, due to its unique characteristics, can be drunk young or aged. Malvasia is considered by the inhabitants of the Planargia region to be a noble and elitist wine, to be reserved for special occasions and people: it is the wine of friendship and hospitality, offered to those who are dear to us.

Carnaval di Bosa

Bosa hosts a unique carnival where joy and fantasy reign supreme. Also known by its dialect name Karrasegare 'osincu, the Bosa carnival begins, as everywhere else in Sardinia, at the end of January. On Maundy Thursday, the festivities really get underway with a masked parade and decorated floats winding their way through the streets. On Saturday, the Festa delle Cantine takes place, where visitors are welcomed and invited to taste a glass of wine or local Malvasia. On Sunday, the festival continues with pancake tasting, street theatre performances and a masked ball. However, the most traditional day of the festivities is Mardi Gras, when, from early in the morning, satirical masks, the Giolzi and the S'Attitadora, parade through the town. The Bosa Carnival is a major event, enlivened every day by cultural and musical performances. The festivities end the following weekend with the awarding of prizes for the floats and the most beautiful masks, as well as the ‘pentolaccia’ (the traditional cauldron ceremony) in the main square.

Sartiglia Carnaval in Oristano

The Sartiglia Carnival is one of Sardinia's most imaginative folk events. This magnificent event, where you can admire Sardinian costumes, takes place in Oristano, 55 minutes from Anima Sarda, from the last Sunday in February to the following Tuesday. The highlight takes place on Sunday with the traditional horse race. It is one of the oldest equestrian events in the Mediterranean (first mentioned in 1547) and one of the most spectacular. It is one of the world's unique events in the field of knights, tournaments, equestrian sports and other competitions.
